PricewaterhouseCoopers, the receiver currently managing Victoria Gold's assets, has reportedly fired its chief executive, John McConnell.

Canadian media reported that McConnell said in an email Monday would be his last day in the role at Victoria Gold.

Last week, an Ontario court appointed PricewaterhouseCoopers receiver over Victoria Gold. A day later, the company's board resigned. 

The receivership followed a heap leach failure at the miner's Eagle gold mine in Yukon, Canada, on June 24. Since the failure, the Yukon government has been critical of Victoria Gold's "lack of action" and filed for receivership over the miner's assets to urgently address environmental concerns.

In a press conference last week, the government of Yukon said it hoped to resume production at the Eagle gold mine and had no intention of putting Victoria Gold out of business.

Mining Journal has contacted PricewaterhouseCoopers for a comment but has not received a reply as of the time of publication.
